CaTTERY
Sometime back in 1989, I decided that Samantha needed a companion. Samantha was
about eight years old at the time. Oh yes, Samantha, was a beautiful domestic cat that I
adopted from the Dogs Home Battersea, in London, England. I had been working at that
time for a US Government bonds broker, and Samantha made a lovely companion.
Looking for a pure Chartreux was different from adopting from the shelter. I wanted a
pure bred cat so I did some research on cats. I came across a beautiful Chartreux in
Simon and Schuster's "Guide to Cats" book by Mordecai Siegal. The coat of the
Chartreux appeared blue and it caught my eye. It was hard finding a breeder of
Chartreux, and I got to learn about "the waiting list". I was able to locate a breeder
named Stephanie Pendleton that lived in Sullivan's Island, South Carolina, and was put on
her waiting list. I believe that I waited six months, but it was well worth it. In December
1989, I picked up my first "blue cat". Stephanie will always be an inspiration to me, as
she was patient and very knowledgeable with the breed. It is the direct influence of
Stephanie that encouraged me to be a Chartreux breeder. There were two kittens
available, and I chose the smaller of the two, who eventually became known as
"Steppenbleu Echo of Chateaubleu". Echo produced two cats that are most memorable to
me, Chateaubleu Hallen, my first Chartreux and Chateaubleu Holden of BleuJeanne that
was placed with a breeder.
Echo attended her first cat show at The Seaview Nursing Home, in Staten Island, NY. The
show was very local organized by the Empire Cat Club, so it was convenient for me to
attend. Ms. Pendleton was encouraging and ready to guide me with any questions that I
had about the cat shows. Echo was entered as a kitten and was quite successful.
Chartreux were rarely shown in the Northeast United States at that time. In fact, Echo
was the only Chartreux entered in the show!
My first male was Chatton Fandango of Chateaubleu. His breeder was Sue Herhold of
Indialantic, Florida. Sue was known to work with import bloodlines, and she inspired me
to do the same. Fandango became my main stud and was used exclusively for several
years.
I became a member of the Empire Cat Club, and was able to attend meetings while they
were held in New York Ciity. When I started the meetings were held in Chinatown. As a
member of Empire, I was able to learn about the preparation of a cat show. I became
the legislative liaison for the club, and was able to help have an anti-breeding law
withdrawn in New York.
Chateaubleu is committed to educating and enlightening the public about the Chartreux
breed. We believe that our cats truly are magical and will provide any Chartreux owner
with the joy that has kept us breeding them through the years. Kittens are produced in
very limited quantity and are sold by reservation only with a written health guarantee.
Adult cats may be available. Networking with other breeders to find homes for our rare
breed is our policy.

Kittens are raised in a family atmosphere to help insure a desirable temperament. Your kitten will be completely vaccinated, and its health will be certified by a licensed veterinarian at time of transfer. Kittens will be FeLV/FIV free. Our kittens have never had adverse reactions to any vaccinations to date.
We aim to provide "purrsonality plus" with our kittens and cats. We ship BOTH domestically and internationally.

The Chartreux cat happens to remain being a rather rare breed of cat. Through the years I have noticed that the average price of a Chartreux has fluctuated depending on supply, demand, location and other factors. Demand is likely to be greater than the supply, so reservations are highly recommended.
